I have been thinking of getting the
    Mordaunt short 309 sub
    Mordaunt short 906 for front
and Mordaunt short 904 for the rear

    I have Yamaha DSP-AX2 amplifier with 6x140W at 8Ohm.

Do you think this assembly will be good for this amplifier?

BDW: The amp has the posibility to power front and back SUB and front and back center. I can hook 10 speaker up to it.

    Any suggestions for other speakers?

Maybe i should get bigger speakers as my room is 5x6*3.7meters?

    Thanks in advance!

Anyway is there a difference between 504 center an 905 center, except of course the price tag and the THX certification?

    Any help appriciated!

You can get a pair of 903 rears from Germany for £111 delivered (see my thread from 2 days ago).

The difference is price and THX as you say- see the MS website.

Have you looked at the Aego 3B- supposed to be pretty good? As to size- how far away from the screen will you be sitting?! I think the sub may be affected by room size- see the many posts in the Subwoofer section, esp XL200 etc.

I would guess they don't make black anymore? You can get a1 sound on:

    tim@a1-sound.co.uk

(Tell Tim "Mark" sent you ;) )

They are also the cheapest that I've seen for a 309.

Thanks for the quick reply. I read through the site and did not find any suggestions that they ship to europe. Do they? I live in Slovenia and am wondering about the shipping costs.
I can get one from the local dealer but was wondering about the availability in black finish :) (If they really don't make them black, than i can't get it from my local dealer)

Ahh, didn't realise that you were in Slovenia :)

You could try a search on www.froogle.de or google.de

I got a pair of MS903's from Germany for 158 euros delivered. I'm sure there were plenty of places selling 309's- but I don't think there prices were very keen.

I've got 906 fronts with a 905 centre, 903 rears and Yamaha 750 amp - it's great, movie sound is awesome! Upgraditis is starting to appear though and I'm contemplating a stereo power amp for the fronts :)

Stick with the 905 to match the 906's/904's - the 905 was voiced to match the Avant range and the 504 has a different tonality to it as a result of the more complicated crossover required to meet THX specifications.

MangoBob- what sub do you have?

I'm looking at the same speakers as you but can't decide on a sub- split between the BK XLS200 (£280), Velodyne CHT10 (£210) and KEF PSW3000 (£250)..... ??

I've got the MS309 (bought the whole lot from Richers and got a good discount!), it's a great sub - I'm not expert on them though, I'm still not convinced it's all set up right and that's after 6 months tweaking!

I imagine you'd be fine with any of them - I'd be tempted by the BK as it's very compact - less obtrusive...until it SPEAKS

    Thanks for your input guys!

Not at all -the 909 will work well with the Avants. And it does have quite a bit more grunt than the 309...........

nUMb - i guess it depends on your room size, i find the 309 fills my 14' x 12' lounge and then some...the sofa next to it actually shakes during explosions! I'm nowhere near the max output of the sub as it would just be far too overpowering for the room.

It's actually making me wonder about adding some bass shakers to the sofa facing the TV for extra effect!

Beobloke, out of interest in a small room would upgrading to a 909 or other big sub make much difference? I wouldn't have thought I could turn it up more as it would just overpower everything else.

The room size is 5m*6m*3.70 meter celing :) Just wandering if the avants and the 309W will be powerful enough?

I think it will be fine- it is in the same range Avant 900 whereas the 309 is for the "3 series" (as it were)- 302, 304 etc. Unfortunately it is at least £200 more expenisve :(

Thanks! You really pushed the favours onto the 309W! No there is no doubt :) BDW does any of you know the answer to this?

Before the Yamaha i had an AKAI stereo amplifer that had just 60W sin output. But it seems that it gave more power to the Jamo speakers that are stated at 90W max as this new Yamaha that has 6x140W output at 8ohms! Bdw these old spekers have an impedance of 6Ohms. Any ideas? Maybe a dumb question after all?
