    Here's a teaser for you.

In the USA this manufacturer is supplying this new 32" LCD and claiming the following specifications...

    Syntax Olevia LT32HV.
    32" 16:9.
    HDTV ready (480i, 480p-(yank TV)- 720p 1080i (Euro HiDef)
    1200:1 Contrast Ratio (!)
    WXGA Panel 1366 x 768 Resolution
    800 cd/m2 Brightness
    8ms Pixel Response (!)
    DVI/HDCP and VGA connections
    Progressive Scan
    etc etc etc

WOW. There's a lot more too, mentioning 2:2 and 3:2 pull downs, de-interlacers, comb filters and assorted digital noise reduction facilities.
All for less than $2000. (£1100ish) The TV is actually made in the Far East, I have the website, but it's a bit indecipherable...The Syntax link is as follows:

Shopping trip to New York could be on the cards.....if these specs are to be believed.

Interesting to note that these TVs are based on S-IPS panels. I notice that some of the newer Philips models in the UK have this too at least according to the catalogue(the 42PF9986 is specified as S-IPS, but the 32PF9986 is M-VA). The differences are probably small - for more on S-IPS:
