As the title says what would you go for between the Synology DS413j or DS213+?

I have been reading up a lot lately on setting up my own NAS at home but i dont have enough networking knowledge to set the thing up from scratch and so save money so i'm looking at getting one of the Synology NAS devices.

Does anyone have any experience of either? they can both be got from amazon for almost the same price while the 213+ looks far better i cant stop thinking the 4 bay 413j would be more futureproof (despite its desperate looks ha)

    Anyone any thoughts?

    Cheers

I got the ds213 the other week. I couldn't see the benefit getting the 213+ over the 213. The speeds are very similar and most files transfer in about 10 mins (average 5gb size). Everything else was pretty much the same specs.

The 4 series was very tempting though as as you say it's pretty future proof. But for my purpose of storing DVDs only, with the odd downloaded TV show then 2 bays was enough.

Yeah I'd be similar data wise. The 413j does just offer that bit more futureproofness with it's extra 2 bays just wondering is the 213+ a much better option?

Have you had a look on the comparison section of the synology website? I find it very useful when deciding which one to go for. But have to admit even up to the point of ordering I still wasn't sure!

Do what I did, get a raspberry pi. Cheap and does the job, especially if its only DVDs your going to be saving on the NAS.
