I'm interested in having a play with DSM, is there any movement on price for this? A one year old DS1517 complete with 5x1tb WD Reds sold recently for £440 delivered (item 253865661060 here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Used-Synology-DiskStation-DS1517-5TB-RED-5-bay-5TB-5x1TB-WD-Red-/253865661060?)

I appreciate yours is a + model with additional memory but the five drives would have accounted for a fair chunk of the auction price. Would you accept £350 delivered? Payment via BT, delivery by RMSD.

Would you be willing to split the eSATA case from the controller and cable. If so how much?

Hi, finally back and catching up!

..that was a keen price, as you say £150ish of drives are already inside it making the DS itself cost on that around £300 for argument sake.

+ makes a decent difference, it's around £100 on top of the non plus retail and the memory upgrade wasn't cheap (£125) - I planned to run a bunch of dockers hence the need for more than the standard 2Gb.

I'm happy to consider putting standard memory back in to accept a lower price but it'd need to be higher than the £350 and personally to make it really useful it needs it - this is an OOB ready to go NAS powerhouse :)

In short, open to offers, but £350 too low.

    Cheers!
    Adam

Sure, but keep in mind Startech themselves are only keen on supporting it with their own controller (the one I bought) .. could go to £200 for the case, cheapest I can find online is north of £300

    Cheers,
    Adam

Was it a warranty replacement for another DS1517+ or an older model? When does the warranty expire?

How much with standard amount of memory?

Is it 16gb ECC ram, what’s the spec?
What is the warranty situation on this unit?

No to ECC, RAM is this:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007B5S52C/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1

I've opened a ticket with Syn regarding warranty status. I would assume 3 years from replacement date but I guess worst case would be 3 years from initial purchase of the original NAS which would mean warranty until Jan 2019.

    Cheers,
    Adam

Regarding warranty, I believe Synology extended it to 4 yrs on these due to the CPU issue.

    On the 1515+ or the 1517+ ? I had a 1515+ which they replaced with the 1517+

Either way Syn will respond with the info shortly I'm sure, they're pretty responsive.
    Cheers,
    Adam

    DiskStation DS1517+ | Synology Inc.

..it's not the best NAS for transcoding, never used it for that as I have a dedicated server for heavy lifting.
