Upon playing a DVD, my TV (toshiba 36ZP18P) switches to 4:3 instead of wide (EXT3 S-video). Is there anything I can do about this? My Panasonic player is set for 16:9.

The Toshiba will use the default zoom mode unless it detects line 23 WSS, Line 21 WSS or scart pin 8 switching telling it to do something different.

When one of the above switching signals stops the tosh will return to whatever mode it was in previously.

Are you using the s-video ext 3 or the scart (s-video signal) ext3?

    I use SCART. Panasonic RA61 into a 36ZP18P. EXT3 *and* EXT2 (S-Video).

After further investigation I've noticed that PAL discs switch to WIDE correctly and NTSC do not. A switching action is taking place since it takes it out of whatever mode I'm in and changes it to 4:3! I used to use an old 21" Philips - I'm sure it worked on that.

I thought PAL and NTSC supported WSS through pin 8. Try a different cable, TV, player?!
