Can I take the hard drive out of a Dell 1564 and put it into a Dell 1525? The 1564 uses Windows 7 and the 1525 had Vista? Won't the info on the OS on the hard drive stay in place? I am a rookie at this and need all the help and advice I can get!

    Thanks in advance!

The OS is entirely on the hard drive. While there's no problem connecting the hard drive to another computer and accessing the data on it you may find Windows isn't entirely stable if you try and boot into it on a system other than the one it was installed to.

As they appear to be laptops then unless the 1525 has a second hard drive bay then I'd count of needing to reinstalling windows.

So, Endless, I am guessing the answer is yes, they are interchangable. Is there a tutorial or instructions somewhere on how to do this? And yes, they are laptops.

    Thanks again.
