What? You never actually watch it?! :p

Can't really comment as I've only had mine for 24 hours...

yes, always on standby as i never watch it, because im afraid of screen burn!!

    only joking!!!!!!!!

its just that i think that the on/off button feels a bit cheap and tacky and if i dont use it, it will last, so i hope that i dont do damage to the screen by leaving it on standby when NOT viewing it, i would rather know now rather than when its to late!!

    cheers

If you leave it in standby then you can set the timer to turn the screen on during the night and run the screensaver for a while. At least I think you can do this. I set it up last night but I was fast asleep when it should have come on! :clown: Must try it again this evening while I'm actually there...

    Sparky,
I take it you have the 5 series as the timed screensaver feature isnt available on the 4.
As for the initial thread ive left my 4 series on stand-by when not in use for over a year now and theres nothing to worry about..

Nothing wrong with leaving a screen in standby. The only concern would be how much electricity it would use.

Some "Green" activists state that a TV will use up to 80% of the power as it would if it were on. This is simply not the case. A screen will use about 300W when on, but only 1W when off. To burn a unit of electricity you'd have to have the screen in standby for over a month!

Before anyone accuses me of being anti-environmentally friendly, I take the point of view that I'd really like to see true figures rather than being conned. CO2 emissions seems to be the latest coming under attack from a motoring point of view. Approximately 0.5% of global CO2 emissions come from cars yet motorist are the only sector being taxed. As for "Global Warming", aren't we still coming out of an ice age??

    All the best,

    Dr John Sim.
