Dug out my 50mm F1.7 Minolta from my old gear to check out on my Alpha A500 - was messing about trying to get some DOF but had it on Auto for this shot so F4 with flash.

Hi Jim.. Do you not go to bed?:devil:

I like the concept but I would retake the photo, if possible ( iknow it isnt an RIA)

The only packet in focus is obscured too much by the foreground one IMHO

I suspect using a bit more wide open aperture, and a slight rearrangement of the packets may do the concept a bit more justice
A bit of trial and error , maybe?

Hi Senu - thanks for the feedback - much appreciated

I know what you mean - but do you realise just how difficult it was for a mere mortal like myself to get only the second sweet in sharp focus ? (especially having set it to auto by mistake) :rotfl:

My main issue with the shot personally is that you can't tell that the background "blurs" are actually the wrappers of the sweets i had eaten - leaving only the two in the foreground - and of course the reason the leading sweet is slightly OOf is of course because it's quivering with fear as it knows it's next

However you can rest assured I will be trying more of this DOF related stuff - not sure if i've enough sweets left to redo this one though :D

I agree with senu. I would have preferred the 1st sweet to be in focus with a gradual fall off through the second and the wrappers.

Nice idea though.

Hi Paul - thanks for that - you guys are gonna do nothing for my waistline you know ;) - guess I'm gonna have to buy another box and get scoffing again :D

...guess you didn't buy the "it's shaking in it's boots" line then ?

Nice try JIm

I have had the same problem with focusing the foreground in some of my macro shots, cant seem to master it.

Love the DOF on this one but as said its a shame about the foreground

I'm surprised they are not WINEgums

Thanks Neil - with Macro work I can appreciate the DOF Focussing problem/difficulty - however with this shot all I needed to do was point the focus sensor on the first sweet if that's what I wanted..... ;)

EDIT: @Neil - "RE:Winegums" - LOL - only proble would have been "no wrappers" but a pile of WG's might work - watch this space ;)

I get exactly what your intention was Jim, you may has missed the focus on the first sweet but it still works for me, all those empty wrappers cast into the background and only two victims remaining.

mark.

Your shot looks much better with that explanation  A bit smaller aperture might have helped with the wrappers in the background..

Thanks Existent - I will be trying various apertures that's for sure - especially as the F4 was a total accident and lacking a DOF preview I took it and checked it later and liked it

Definitely want to get just a little more definition on the background wrappers so that they can't easily be mistaken for a pile of sweets :)

Really quite liking the 50Mmm F1.7 Minolta lens though - just need to get out with it as well....

i could make out they were empty wrappers behind, purely because it,s a sight I have seen many times on my desk, I am just suprised there was any room left on your desk:D;), I also agree the first eclair should of been the draw and the dof a little smoother fade. Mike
