I am about to contact Sky in the hope of swapping my naff Amstrad box for a Pace. As I have already upgraded the hard drive in the Amstrad, when I install it in the Pace will i have to re-format, thereby losing all my current programs?

I wouldn't get too far ahead of yourself. As far as I'm aware, Sky won't take orders for specific makes of box. They may fob you off and say that they will do their best to reserve one for you, but at the end of the day it's all down to what the fitter has in his van on the day he visits.

If the unit is still within 12 months, you will have also invalidated your guarantee. So the chances of getting a swap are slim anyway.
