Hi,
Just setup my new 360, and connected my old HDD. I assumed that then the new console would behave exactly the same as the old one and boot straight to my profile as normal?!

However, the new machine comes up with the setup screens like as if it had a blank HDD on it!

So set the language, screen resolution and then its gone to setup new profile or recover gamertag! What do i do????
I dont want to loose all my data!!!!

Can't you skip that bit?

In the settings somewhere you can set it to auto sign-in.

I cant skip it no, the only options i have after setting the screen resolution etc, are to recover my gamertag from xbox live, or create a new profile!

What's happened to my profile already on there!

quit all that, and go to the systems memory area, and have a look for profiles, saves etc..if they are there, then you can sign in.
try pressing the "Xbox" button, and select sign in, and pick one of the profiles on the harddrive.

i cant see it being any different from using the same harddrive on a second console, which is what i , and i guess a lot of others do.
you do have to re-do the video/sound settings on the new console though, but once done, they are saved onboard, and not to the harddrive.
