    Hi chaps n'all

My sister has a Quake but has now heard about my SVS 16-46 toob and is curious how much better an SVS would be (or not).

She's running a Denon 3803 for films. Though she's not that impressed with its musical performance.

Would the PB10-ISD flatten a Quake? Or should she really look at the 25-31 or 20-39 for a serious step up in performance from the Quake? I haven't heard any of these so can't really advise.

Let's assume a medium sized room.

Anybody moved from Quake to SVS who can offer some useful thoughts please?

    Thanks

    Nimby,

I once owned a REL Quake, purchased blindly from the What hi-fi reviews and it was soo aweful I didn't even use it. The only sound it produced was this aweful farting noise that was just plain irritating. From what I have read about the SVS subs, both the tubes and the PB10 I think your sister would seriously enjoy either of them.

    Cheers

    Rob

    It's a: "No contest".

It is doubtful if even the best Rel subwoofers hold ground against the average SVS subwoofer, for movies at least. If you purchase an SVS sub with the Ultra-driver there is little competition from any brand, even on the music front.

Well I think you've convinced me. Now all I have to do is convince her.

I'm not familiar with her Denon 3803. Would she be able to get some bass into her music with only a low level connection?

The PB10-ISD hasn't any of the filters or high level connections of the bigger chaps.

I wouldn't want to recommend the PB10-ISD if she was limited to films only.

"Stereo" mode uses the sub and "Direct" also uses the sub if the friont are set to small.

Thanks Ian and all the other helpful responses. :smashin:

It sounds as if she's in for a real treat even if she goes for the little PB10.

Of course she might insist on an SVS cylinder. :D

    Thanks

Oddly enough the bigger cylinder may be easier to position if it's in a living room as the PB-10 is an awkward shape and sticks out a lot more

I think you could class all SVS subs in the Premiership with the Quake being Conference League.
    Or am I being a bit harsh?:D

Perhaps the Quake sould be the Junior League?

The Quake seems to go for £350 (or £425 with wood veneer).

How much is the PB10-ISD (delivered) these days?
