    Let's try another tactic.

In answer to the accusations of bías for SVS products on this forum I have personally opened this exclusive & tastefuly decorated clubroom for all unhappy SVS subwoofer owners.

Come on all you lurkers crying nightly into your top grills and wishing you had never heard of SVS and its noisy dustbins.

We want the whole truth about the great SVS con trick being pulled on this forum.

We don't want anything positive being said in here thankyou very much. We want to hear the negative things about them. The niggling things that drive you mad. The crap sound quality. The bits that keep falling fall off.

The only qualification for this club and exclusive access to the luxury clubroom is that you are an actual owner of an SVS subwoofer and are unhappy with its performance or build or anything else you don't like about it.

No jostling at the door now!

Ian! Get back! Stop biting the new club members! Leave them alone to mope and comfort each other in peace.

The club is officially declared open!

    Nimby

    LMAO :D

I think this approach doesn't stand a chance, as all unhappy folk have already been scared off by Ian.. ;-) (just kidding)

This will be a short thread not because of Ian but because SVSs WORK and work well, as go Paradigm, Velodynes and Genelecs

Now that you mention it there have been one and a half unhappy owners. THX 1138 bought a 20-39 PC Plus and complained that it didn't perform too well in his admittedly difficult room.

He managed to negotiate a swap with Mark Ward exchanging his SVS for two Paradigm Servo 15's which he later posted performed much better. Oddly enough Mark seemed quite keen on his end of the swap and seemed to prefer one SVS to his previous pair of Servo 15's

The half is a more interesting case as it involves Chris who complained that his 20-39 PC Plus also didn't perform very well in his room and bought a Servo 15 which he said was much better, selling his SVS in the process.

Chris went very quiet for a while until he resurfaced a few weeks ago and admitted that he had bought another SVS as he missed it after all.

I estimate that since June last year over 40 SVS subs have been sold to forum members so one disappointed member isn't bad

I was the one to raise some caution about buying SVS, not because of the quality of their products, but because the reality of having one might not suit everyone (WAF, room effects, destructive force).

No sub suits everyone, each has their own blend of virtues. Even though I use Paradigm currently I openly acknowledge there are now some excellent quality alternatives including SVS and re

WAF SVS are probably higher than the 'alternatives' IMHO
Room effects. Everyone makes a mess here. Room acoustic DOMINATE how these subs work, it makes the differences between say a SVS and Velodyne look pityful in comparison. People are aiming for the 'small' target when they should be aiming for the BIG one. Room acoustic
Destructives forces. They all have this but if anyone has problems here they need their brain sorting out first.

Bob007 had the best idea for getting round the WAF factor, not that i think they look bad at all. He bought a 50" rear projection Toshiba and hid the SVS behind it.

It's quite amazing to walk into a room that has an SVS but not being able to see it  :)

Well i have a svs 20-39 PC+ and you could add me to the un happy svs owners club.
Unfortunatley this sub oftern scares the cat and shakes the room so much the vibrations make me need to take a pee evey 5 mins (which is no good when trying to enjoy a film).
I've spent more money then what ther subs worth on roof tiles and have spent about 4 total days in a poilce cell for causing noise polution.
Infact its so bad im actually gonna be ordering another one so ive got two of the beasties. Muhahahaha damn i loves these subs:)

Talk about "needing their brain sorting out first".. lol :D ;)

I think you are mostly talking about the bigger subs here. A smaller model won't necessarily have the destructive force. For instance my small (cherry) Yamaha sub has an extremely good WAF and sounds great for most purposes, while not taking down the building.

SVS builds subs with a very good WAF (=Wife Acceptancy Factor), but they are more expensive. From what I read sofar, most people seem to buy the (black) cylinder type.

Room effects and how to deal with them are for many an unknown or alas a compromise, because of wife/kids. I have been thinking about upgrading my sub at some time, but it would probably need a PEQ (=Parametric EQualizer) because of unsuitable placement.

Hed more than likely laugh:rotfl: at you for wasting your money when you could have had the svs pb-ultra 2 for half the price with better performance.
    Gonzo:rotfl:
PS someone on this forums already traded there old godzilla in for the better performing svs pb-2+.

I sold my 25-31 PCi because we didn't like the dustbin look and thought it was a bit overpowering for my flat.
I recently decided life wasn't the same without that house shaking LFE, and thought the only route was back to SVS again, this time in the form of a box sub:D
However, my wife thinks these are ugly :)confused: ) and I am now presently waiting for a B&W ASW750 to arrive.

Gonzo are you really saying a pb ultra 2 gives better performance than a DD-18 , where did you hear one of these lol .
And no one on here has traded there DD-18 in for a pb , do your homework.

I have heard sound DD18 sound really bad and I have found them (and the sucessor?) to be the single greatest sub I know. Both are entirely consistent. Acoustics, I wish people would spend more time dealing with this issue, £500 components will then trash £4k ones if they did. Aim for the big target first get the acoustics right THEN blow out on your mega sub, NOT the other way around

Someone please close this thread as it's a waste of time. 40+ SVS owners and the vast majority are happy - thats enough to prove that they are decent subs. I know the Velo DD18 is a decent sub as well (first hand experience).

Frankly the whole Velo vs. SVS, everyones biased, conspiracy theories, SVS is better / Velo is better crap is beginning to rub me up the wrong way.

I'm going to be boring and be serious.

I have really grown to hate the look of my dustbin.
I'm seriously thinking of getting a 'nice' box made for it instead and transfering the important bits over.

Totally agree Matt, Nic has championed that cause from the start, it wasn't until I had my experience with firstly the Rel Storm III and then the SVS that I "heard" what a difference acoustics made.
The SVS Vs Velodyne Vs M&K Vs Whatever is really getting so boring...........
