The finish and feature set gets a bit of criticism but they do acknowledge the sub is aimed at the 'best-bang-for-the-buck' fraternity.

Interestingly the acompanying advert sports an 'HCC Best buy' badge but the review does not. Some last minute politics there??? ;)

The first step in the conversion of the masses. :D
I still talk to people in specialist shops who have never heard of SVS
I can't wait until they start testing the heavy artillary.

Is 5 stars the maximum score? I'm a bit surprised that it only got 4 stars for depth, what subs have received 5 so far?

I would think it depends if they're judging 'depth' compared to other 10" models or just other subs at that price point, or just comparing it to his £2.5k REL

They are probably saving the 5 stars for the PB12 Plus :)

As I mentioned I think if you read the review it sounds like it will get 5 stars all round with exception of the finish (whic the supposedly don''t score on). Perhaps they bottled it at the last minute hence the advert going in with the five start Best Buy badge.

I don't know how you can compare it to a £2500 sub like that and then only give it 4 for depth.

The use of the language in the review is a little twisted against the PB-10 as if they expected it to be crap ( Bullish, ugly, lumpy, only available in 'Henry Ford Black' etc.) so can't quite sing it's praises enough. Perhaps i am wrong on this but can't be bothered to type the whole thing in :)

I wonder what would happen if someone stuck some nice wood veneer to the same sub and a REL badge and sent it back for another review

SVS represents such good value I am sure they will slowly become more recognised and gain the respect of reviewers and users alike.

To be honest the review is pretty balanced and if you read it in it's entirety it is almost all positive; the score doesn't quite reflect that, which is a little annoying but 4/5 is still good for a virgin product.

Not seen this issue yet - but let me guess - it`s Adam Rayner doing the test,he loves the hyperbole text to a degree - i know he was gobsmacked when he heard my mates B4 - plus - i guess there is some `politics` involved when they review things - but he knows the brand,so seems a little dumb to compare it to a £2,500 flagship model, like you say be intresting to see the bigger boys reviewed

Haven’t read the review yet, but fit and finish will be criteria for overall in the sub. Usually it gets marked in the build category, but will be reflected in the final value. Wife/spouse/partner friendly can be a requirement and a black box doesn’t usually have that wow factor. However 4 stars are 4 stars, its still a good result (better than the other 2 reviews), and remember anyone that is comparing a £400 product to a £2500 one has obviously decided the sound quality merits such comparison. I think the last time I saw 5 across the board was the 10 grand velo.

I'll wait till they mark mine down then I'll get upset:mad:

They actually comment on the build quality being ood but that the sticker on the front mesh looking like it might be easily scraped off and that it is only available in 'Model T BLack'. :D

...must ...find ...fault ...clutching... at... straws...? :rotfl:

To be fair Angeleyes, the black finish is my biggest criticism of the PB10.
The build quality is fine, it's just the bloody colour.
It just reminds me of the early 90's.
Until I close my eyes and listen. Then I don't care.
I wish the yanks were as trendy as us Brits

I know, was just messing about...

I have to agree I wouldn't want one in my lounge, but that is just horses for courses I guess. I think i remember Ron saying they would introduce additional finishes to the PB10 but it may just be senility kicking in... anyone?

You are right as it is the onset of senility.

The PB-10 is produced in cream, grey and bronze as well as black and the one that I had was cream. I think that Ron said that he got the colour mix wrong at the launch as the overwhelming majority ordered black and they had pre-ordered the cabinets in the other finishes expetcing them to be the big sellers.

I expect that AV-Sales have imported only black at the moment as that is the biggest seller and it's better than ordering a range of colours that will sit on the shelves if no-one wants them.

Just to show how difficult it is to prejudge demand I totally disagree with Badger0-0 as I hate maple with a passion and wouldn't have anything that colour in the house.

My REL Storm was a lovely rosewood and I rather like the cherry that some other manufacturers use and those would be my preferred choice. The next one along will probably prefer something completely different to both of us.

Is the "surface" of the PB10 wood or is it coated?

It's just that black doesn't suit her decor.

The PB-10 is produced in cream, grey and bronze as well as black and the one that I had was cream. You're correct, but black is/was the only option when I ordered mine (New year). Black is obviously popular in the US.
As it happens, I wouldn't touch cream, grey or bronze and would rather have black, as much as I hate it.
I think next time you speak to Ron, it might be a good idea to talk about trends, as IMO, the yanks are not on the same wavelength.
Having said that, I doubt the UK market will make it worth the trouble.
As I said, it's a pukka sub, but silly things like colour are enough to put the other half off.

I have to agree with you.
It wasn't my prefered choice originally, but I had no choice when I bought mine.
Now that I have lived with it for a while I have changed my opinion.
I think it is the ideal finish for people for people who don't want to make a statement with their equipment, but prefer it blend gently into the background.

It would be pretty cool if Ron and Tom would make the little guy in rosewood, oak, maple and piano black. Do you think more folks would buy it in the piano black over the regular black? For me, when I'm ready to buy one of the beasts, I wanna get a special order in piano rosewood.........now that would be cool.....

It would be interesting to see how many of each color they sell.;)
