SVS are known for their active subwoofers but in this day and age you have to diversify if you want to stay alive so the news they're coming out with a range of speakers comes as no real surprise.
Led by designer Mark Mason, the new Ultra speaker design feature a range of floor and stand speakers, centre channel and surround models.
The Ultra Tower is a flagship 3.5-way tower loudspeaker with a 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter, dual 6.5" glass-fibre midrange drivers, 3.5" flared rear-firing port and dual horizontally-opposed 8" woofers. It stands an imposing 114cm tall and features an unusual 'upswept trapezoidal' shape in piano gloss black and real black oak veneer finishes
SVS says its non-parallel cabinet panels reduce frequency response colouration, while the wedge-shaped front baffle and flush-mounted drivers reduce edge diffraction and improve on-axis high frequency response. Grille design and cabinet bracing are FEA-optimised to maximise acoustic transparency. Each cabinet employs two separate sealed midrange enclosures; midrange/tweeter baffles are 1" thick and the woofer baffles are 1.5" thick.
The Ultra Bookshelf speakers were developed in parallel with the tower, and is a two-way reference monitor system in another trapezoidal cabinet, finished in a choice of premium-grade piano gloss black and real black oak veneer. The system offers Ultra range engineering and components scaled for a bookshelf design, namely the commonly applied 1 Ultra tweeter, 6.5 glass-fibre woofer and SoundMatch crossover, together with a 1.7 flared reflex port, all housed in a cabinet, which is complete with FEA-optimised bracing and grilles, a wedge-shaped front baffle and flush-mounted drivers.
The Ultra Multichannel speakers are acoustically matched and come named as centre and surround speakers; the centre being a three-way design featuring the 1" dome tweeter, 4" vertically-aligned glass-fibre midrange driver and dual 6.5" woofers.
The wedge-shaped wall-hugging surround features sets of the 1 Ultra tweeter and a 5.5 glass-fibre woofer flush-mounted on 45 degree baffles. For system flexibility it offers three surround modes: bipole, in which both sets of drivers are in phase; dipole mode when both sets of drivers out of phase, and duet, which involves each set of drivers receiving a discrete signal.
SVS Ultra speakers, typical retail price inc VAT:
Tower £2200.00 pr
Bookshelf £1099.00 pr
Center £749.00
Surround £1299.00 pr
