I'm very nearly about to take the plunge and order an CS-Ultra.

What sort of tax/import charges will I be looking at when the sub arrives?

Its costing me around £600 for just the sub and shipping but before I place my order I'd like to know what to expect so I don't get a nasty shock!

Just provide me with the worst case scenario, please.

    Hi
This time last year i brought my svs 2039pc+ which cost around £650 with shipping then i paid bax global £150 thats delivered to the door, so £800 all in,so i would expect you will pay around £140 to bax which means you will have paid £740.
    Cheers Gonzo. :)

Import duty of 4.5% is payable on the total of sub plus shipping then the Government adds another 17.5% Vat on the total inc import duty. I think that BAX probably add on another £10 for clearance fees etc.

The all inclusive total should be a couple of pounds under £750

I moved house, and my PB-2 Plus didn't fit:(

I think the next sub I buy will probably be the PB-2 Ultra, room and money permitting;)

People always ask me this, but I can't do a meaningful comparison as the rooms are like chalk and cheese (never heard them both in the same room). I might well be wrong, but after watching the extended editions of LOTR FOTR and TTT, I'd say that the Ultra sounds a tad "snappier"? If I had a big room though, I'd still go for the PB-2 Plus as for me, headroom is a damn fine friend:)

£880 for the PC Ultra sounds quite reasonable, think I may go for that baby as opposed to the 20-39 PC+ I just need to figure out how to sneak it indoors without the WAF certification forum president seeing it ;)

I can only buy it when I get back from the states, the exchang rate should still be ok by then hopefully, if not, then thats life :). It's only a few weeks away now, doubtful that the exchange rate will change drastically by then. Fingers Crossed.

    Will do Ian.

I'm also going to compare it my DIY effort once that is finished, details here:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138918

Should be interesting and I have no idea which will be 'best'. But I suspect they will each have their merits.

I noticed than the input into 2 ohms is not continuous and that applies across the impedance values.

This doesnt look like a digital amp ? so is a straightforward B design? if so the caps dont look big enough for the job ! but maybe the photo doesnt show the true size.

Figures mean nothing in real world terms.

I do plan to use it in briged mono mode so I expect there will be more than enough power on tap for the Ultra.

If you're using Bax Global ,ensure they use the correct code for Tax.With my PC-Ultra they used the code for a Car Subwoofer. This meant I paid about £40 too much Tax.That was back in May and I'm still trying for a refund.

I'm curious why you have taken the "unpowered route" instead of using the PC Ultra option? Wouldn't the PC offer SVS's own perfectly matched 550Watt Bash amp with all the necessary bells and whistles, subsonic protection etc.? :)

Would you care to share your thinking behind this choice?

    Certainly,

It make seem like a strange descison when you look at the available PC-Ultra but there really is method behind the madness.

I do a fair bit of DIY'ing especially subs, what having a seperate power amp affords me is the ability to use this power amp and simply swap and change it between units as I see fit. Another benefit is that I can upgrade the power amp later for more power, sound quality, flexibility and the list goes on.

Also I must say that SVS are the dogs danglies when it comes to customer service.

I ordered on Monday night, it shipped the next day meaning yesterday and now according to bax tracking, its left Toledo Ohio and is now flying its way to Manchester and should arrive tommorow at 2300hrs.

    Thats what I call service!

Well it landed at Manchester international at 2.30 this morning :)

Strange thing is how come its Manchester and not East Midlands, which is way closer to me at around 20 miles away.

I was hoping to go pick it up but can't be bothered to go all the way to Manchester.

Also when do BAX phone you, should they have done so already? Or do I have to call them?

    Nice!

CS-Ultra will be with me tommorow. Customs are robbing me of £138.75 including all fees.

All in all I'm looking forward to hearing all this SVS lovin' thats going on around here.

    Hi Chaps,

I take it the sub comes with a suitable power supply? Do they already come with a UK compliant power supply or is it something you have to specify when you order?

I only ask as I wanted to get an HK Amp from the US and was told their power supplies weren't compatible.

Thanks for helping this ignoramous.

    Hi,
If you order one for the uk specify 220v and it will come with the correct psu built into the amp, but i think IanJ said that generally all Uk destined SVS subs will automatically be shipped with the correct PSU.

    John :)
