There is a SVS 25-31PCi on a certain auction site.

From looking at my signature, I think my sub could well now be the weak link.

Would a SVS 25-31PCi fill the gap or would I be was to keep saving and wait for a bigger sub. This SVS might be a right bargain but I could spend up to £600-750 on something 2nd hand, I don't mind waiting for the right bargain to come up.

My room is 24" wide by 12" deep

The 25-31 PCi is a considerably better sub that the one you are currently using but I must admit that if your limit is £750 for a second hand sub you will be able to buy better if you wait as there are better SVS subs within your budget for starters.

Thanks for the info Ian, I suspected as much.

If this goes for a bargain I might go for it as I can always re-sell.

The path of upgrading never stops :smashin:

I guess the footprint of the SVS cylinders is not going to be much bigger than my rel (about 13" square)m just 3 times the high. I presume it will operate fine sitting in the corner of the room half behind / half to the side of my floorstanders.

The footprint is 16" and it should be OK stuck in a corner as that's where mine is.

I'm not so sure about this upgrading lark though as the law of diminishing returns sets in and you get less increase in value the more you spend.

I play most films at moderate levels and only the ocassional one at or approaching reference levels so I don't see the point in changing mine at all. I probably will but only just because I will get bored and want to try something else and not because I need to.

Yes, I agree about diminishing returns, ,maybe the the 25-31PCi will be all I require.

Second hand the Rel stuff keeps fairly high value so it may not cost me anything for potentially a step up the sub-woofer ladder

Hi all and especially kingcobbler. I am also interested in the Sub you mention, I live in the same Town/village as the seller, so we may be in competition on this one.

You should keep in mind that the SVS cylinders are no longer available i Europe and may never be again.

From my own experience of a bigger cylinder and all those who post here and elsewhere you will not be disappointed with the 25-31.

Just keep in mind that it is 16" diameter which means arm-stretchingly cuddly.

The 25-31 has the advantage of being the shortest of the breed and thus most easily hidden behind furniture and TVs.

If you are entertaining the idea of owning a powerful subwoofer and the cylinder form appeals then go for it.

Don't think of it as a cheap subwoofer because it's on ebay. Think of it as a powerful subwoofer and how much you are expected to pay for this level of perfomance.

And no, I'm not on commission. Just a happy owner. :)

I take it the 25-31 is better than the pb10 ???

Drool, drool, looks like more competition.

    I like a nice drive:D

That's obscene and I feel a bit guilty about it :(

    Oh well.

    £300
Bit much for me, even though I wanted it.
Fairly comparable to the PB10, available for £320, brand new ???
I could have, but decided against.

Oh well, it's nice to know they hold their price :smashin:

Given the inability to simply post such a thing 25 bids to £300 is not bad, is it?

I would think it would stomp on a PB10. Ilkka would know.

    Quality sells itself mate :smashin:

I would think it would stomp on a PB10. Ilkka would know.

Don't say that, I did ask the question, but no-one answered.
I thought the same, given the 12" driver, but I looked at SVS specs and the PB10 goes lower (but with less grace EDIT finesse, I guess).

£300 was just too much for me, without knowing the facts.
If I'd have won it, one or the other would have been up for sale within two weeks.
I was tempted to run both together, but the idea was to see if the 25-31 was better looking in our living room and I don't think she would have fell for it :rotfl:

I was going to have a go but much too pricey for what it was. I live in same town as seller so would have saved on delivery.
    I just worked it out.
    New it is $549 = £322
Delivery to uk door to door $150=£88
    Total £410
So I think £300 second hand is a bit steep myself.
£410 will buy you a new Monolith DF, which I would have thought is as good and British.

    Fair comment :smashin:
Except the cylinders aren't available any more in the UK.
I would have liked to have done the comparison with the PB10.
Never mind, something else will come up

They do offer international shipping on the site though, at $150 as the man said.

I'd be tempted to go for the '20-39 PCi' for only $50 more.

Pffft they should take down the UK shipping charges on their site then, I wonder if they'll only not ship to countries with a distributor.

VAT & import duty is about $100. That would bring the hypothetical total to around $800 delivered.

    Delivery from wales is £10.

    Badger: you've got post :)

    I didn't win it either.

The cylinder would have fitted in a corner nicely, but decided for the sake of my marriage I only want one more arguement with my wife, anfd I think I relly want one of the big boys. So if I had got it it would only last a year or so.

    Anyone got a PB12/2 !!!

Doesn't AV Sales get the subs in stock often? Only certain models?

I'm assuming this has to do with govt regs of some sort. If you guys rec'd a gift from overseas, is that taxed MUCH less? If yes, you guys could hire me.

You could give me your order via email...............You guys could then transfer all your frequent flyer miles over to me.........I'll make the order to SVS in Ohio...........I'll fly from Calif to Ohio, pick up the subs and have them shipped to the UK..........I'll then fly to the UK, pick up the subs and claim them as gifts...........I know, I know, it's far fetched but what the hey.

You won't be able to obtain 240Volt models from the SVS factory.

Tax free gifts are only allowed up to a very low figure. £16? (unless you are a royal or politician)

VAT is payable on freight as well as purchase price on all imports.

The subs would have no CE marking which might invalidate home insurance policies. (They don't need much excuse already to avoid paying out)

All this has been discussed here before.

The 25-31 PCi would have been about £500 delivered if they were still available directly from USA - but they are not.

The £300 that the sub fetched represented 60% of the new price which I think is a good price for anyone who could have collected it at reasonable cost.
