With the pound in it's current position against the dollar, and my pre Christmas upgrade fever I'm absolutely convinced I want an SVS sub.

However there is always a snag. My better half, after much coaxing is more than happy to entertain it's presence in the lounge, but the larger of the two would have to bring with it further justification.

As my lounge isn't huge [14ft x 16ft] I wonder if the extra expense and extra size of the 20 - 39 is necessary, or would I be missing out on that really deep bass that rattles your bones ? Your opinions are welcomed.

    cheers

You can tune the 25-31 PC+ down to 16Hz I believe, you will lose a tiny bit of output, but in your room, it shouldn't make much difference.

Just do it, and warn the neighbours :D

I found the best balance on the 25-31pc+ was to have 1 port blocked or tuned to 20hz and then it went low enough and loud enough without much loss on the Headroom and when i mean loud "I mean Loud!"
There is not much below 20hz in Films anyway!!

Tom V from SVS would recommend the smaller model unless you wanted to play at reference level in US sized rooms

PS. What on earth is a bloody "Mint" card?

Are Trebor and Polo offering bank cards now? :clown:

It's a credit card - and I didn't actually think about that but it is a stupid name, on par with goldfish or marbles for credit cards. I'm hoping mine has a minty taste, that if necessary, can be used to avoid bad breath and odours...

    SAB,
I've replied to your PM. Just to let others know, I'm still waiting patiently  for my 25-31PC+. Erik said yesterday that it should ship in the "next business day or two" so hopefully it won't be long now. My room is about the same size as yours, so I should be able to give you a good idea of what it sounds like. I will probably block one port and see how it goes

    Cheers,
    Ed.

Also looked at the Velodyne SPL1000 MkII in my upgrade fever and wondered how that compared [aside from higher price] to the SVS 25-31 PC+ Surely size is reasonably important when it comes to subs ?

Of course it is as subwoofery is all about the movement of air and with the best will in the world you will not get the same depth, scale or authority out of a shoebox sized sub as you will out of something with a larger volume of air to shift.

Try and find someone near you who is willing to demo either sub to you so that you can see and hear for yourself what they are both like.
