Survey reveals US Consumers want an Apple branded TV

But they want it on the cheap!

If Apple needed any more encouragement to enter the cut-throat TV hardware market perhaps this is it. A survey amongst American consumers showed that 49% of those polled would be interested in purchasing an Apple branded TV.

The survey conducted for investment bankers, Piper Jaffray, also demonstrated the power of the Apple brand as 29% of those not in the market for a new TV said they would change that standpoint should they enter the market.

"We believe this suggests that customers would be willing to interrupt an estimated seven-year TV product cycle to purchase an Apple Television," Munster said in the investor report. "This is of course not surprising given the following of Apple products and widespread adoption of the iPhone and iPad."

Revealingly, however, only 12% of those surveyed said that they would be willing to pay in excess of $1,500 for one and, dependent on size, that seems like as low a price as an Apple TV would command.

"The hurdle Apple is going to face with winning consumers to Apple Television is price," Munster said. "Over the past seven years, consumers have been conditioned to pay progressively less for TVs, with the average 32-inch TV price down 76 percent since 2005."

Maybe we should do our own survey...
