I looked recently at small speakers due to pressures from 'er indoors!. The new Keffs seemed to be the answer however when going into a shop with "qualified people" I was told that the BOSE speakers were far and away the better speaker. Help, totally confused!!!!!

Qualifed to make commission that is.
    The Bose being more expensive.

I know they aren't the only opinion you should seek, but try finding a hi-fi mag that recommends Bose, compared to the umpteen that are currently giving glowing reviews to the KEFs

Whatever you buy, be happy that it wasn't Bose.

You could try something from Def tech (Pro Cinema series), Boston Acoustics, or maybe the KEf 2005's.
