Do the have the the sky box connected to the surround system via the red and white phono connections or does the Sky box only connect to the TV via scart?

If it's connected via the phone connection and, if the surround system can support Dolby ProLogic or Dolby ProLogic II, then you should get some degree of surround sound when watching Sky.

I have moved this thread to all in one systems for you as it is more relevant to that category :)

Yes, to get sorround sound, you'll need to connect the Sky box the surround sound system (if you can).

There are two ways to do this:

    1. Connect the red and white phono sockets on the back of the Sky box to phono in's on the Sony. When you want to listen to Sky in surround, you'd need to select the relevant input on the Sony depending on the phono input you have used. This option will give you Dolby ProLogic II

    2. If you have a Sky+ box and if the Sony has an optical in, you can connect the two via an optical lead which will give you Dolby Digital 5.1 on those Sky channels that support it and ProLogic II on others.
