surround sound?? optical sound card..please help

Basically i've bought a trust sc-7600 soundcard with optical out and in
and A cable. I presumed the cable would be plugged from out of ps3 to in on sound card

but I get no sound. I've changed the ps3 setting to optical out etc etc

what am I doing wrong?
