Hello,

I have a Sony 65” XF9 TV with a PS4 Pro. I also use apps built in the TV such as Netflix and VLC to play movies etc. The PS4 pro is connected to the TV via HDMI. I’ve been using the built in speakers since I got the TV.

I would like to buy a 5.1 surround sound system.

If I connect a surround sound receiver to the ARC HDMI port on the TV, will any source connected directly to the TV (and the built in apps mentions) output 5.1 sound to the system?

Is there anything I should be looking out for when buying a 5.1 system?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Budget?

Considering same as OP at the same budget so bumping this.

Is this any good? Yamaha YHT1840 (Black)

My main questions are:
* Does your tv remote control the volume of the system like it can with a soundbar?
* Can you use the system to play music from a home NAS or using google home or alexa, like you can with a soundbar?
* Can you buy separate speaker stands for those speakers so you can put them behind the sofa?

And to echo the OP's questions:
If I connect a surround sound receiver to the ARC HDMI port on the TV, will any source connected directly to the TV (and the built in apps mentions) output 5.1 sound to the system?

Is there anything I should be looking out for when buying a 5.1 system?
