Do you have a Motorola Cable Modem (installed by Virgin/Telewest)?
If so is the bottom orange light flashing like mad or very slowly?
If slowly turn the power off to the modem for 10secs then power back on.
My connection slows down to about 5Mb every now and then, a quick power off and on again works wonders.
Well although I can't offer you any advice. I have got the 16Mb Sky Broadband package and I am lucky to get as much as 3Mb!! I am just over a mile from my BT exchange and I am willing to accept that I am going to lose a lot of bandwith as it travels along all the old telephone cable, but still I think it should perform a little better in both our cases. I would try calling Virgin and seeing what they say. Perhaps they can cap you connection to achieve a faster speed. Worth a try.
