No problem with mine. Try holding it upside down and then push your finger into the latch.

Best of luck

I had the same problem, had to take the disc back to get the red plastic bit removed. Does your ASDA have a big choice of HD DVD's?

I think you're right. I had the same problem with a HDDVD and the tab needs to be removed by the store. I somehow managed to get mine open without damaging the HDDVD but I wouldn't advise anyone to try.

Yes I had one of these on an ordinary DVD and I split the cover removing it. I think it should be removed by the store when you buy but isn't.

Played it several times (yes I am sad) on an E1 to explore settings (settled on 720p given my telly wont do 1080p and the fast disintegrating plane sequence looked better), and it worked fine every time. As has every other HD DVD and SD DVD I have played.

If it's a dark red block that sits in the recess halfway along the side of the case that opens, then yes, it's a security device and should have been removed by the checkout op!

I'm glad I am not the only one that walks out of Asda sometimes without making sure they have taken out the security tag

The question has to be, how did you succeed in getting out? The whole point I thought of these devices is to set an alarm off when said device passes the detector?

Same thing happened to me in HMV. It's not there to trigger any alarm, it's to stop anyone pilfering the disc from the case (I think).
