    Hi,

I have until recently been using a freeview card with my HTPC (Nova-T, which will be for sale shortly). I am now getting Sky installed next Thursday and need advice on what TV card is best suited, and how exactly it all connects up.

    So in bullet form
    1. What TV card is considered the best.
2.Do i just connect the Sky box using an RF cable, or are there better alternatives.
    3. How do i change channels, just using the sky remote?
    4. Does the MCE guide work with Sky?

    Thanks in advance.
    Nicky

Hauppauge PVR150MCE is what you need.
How you connect it depends on your sky box.
Sky+ and some other boxes (Grundig?) offer s-Video out, all other boxes give composite out - you can conncet to teh PVR150MCE this way rather than RF

When you install and set your TV card MCE will walk you through selection of the EPG stuff for sky and get you to set up the IR blasters to change sky channel for you. It's all pretty straight forward, so yes the MCE guide will work with Sky, and you can change channels through your MCE remote (the IR blasters then change channel on the sky box)

I can sell you a Grundig box with s-video output and an nVidia NVTV capture card for a total of £50inc.

Just swap sky boxes and call sky to marry your viewing card to the new box and bob's yer dads brother!

The sky box is just that! No cables, no remote etc. Just the box and a mains plug. The NVTV card was offered on the FS Forum but there were no takers at £27.50. It's an OEM card so just the card and drivers disk.

I'm saving a bit of postage by selling both together hence the low price. You can pay me more if it makes you feel better!

    Thanks for the offer DaveP.

Think it will probably be best to wait and see what box comes next week though.

    So NVTV or Hauppage 150?
Oh, and exuse my stupidity....whats an IR blaster?

IR blaster is an Infra Red transmitter than send the codes your sky remote would normally send to your sky box to change channel etc. that way when you set to recod somthing it changes to the correct
    channel

Juts bought a PVR150 MCE for £30. Which seemed like a decent price :)
