    Hi,

I'm upgrading my system from a Yamaha 795 amp and Bose AM10s (I was young naive and flush with cash ok!!)

So my room is approx 15m x 12m and I'm looking at the following:

    Pio VSX-D2011-S
    SVS sub 20-39 or 25-31
B&W VM1 x 5 (Dont have space for anything floor mounted etc.

Anyway demoing the lot will be hard (impossible with the SVS) so I have a few questions for those in the know or with similar equipment/room sizes

One thing though is I want to have something that when I move to a larger place means that I can get away with say just upgrading say the B&Ws

    1. Is the SVS overkill
    2. Is the amp going to be too powerful

    Any other comments welcome

    Thanks

    Si

I'm guessing you mean 15' x 12' rather than metres? (if not then you have a bloody huge room!)

    In answer to your questions:

    1. SVS overkill? No way. Even if your room was smaller, the fact is you'd be buying a sub which you wouldn't need to upgrade in a long time...even if you moved to a bigger place. Good move.

    2. No again. The amp will be fine.

Re: your comments on not having space for floorstanders: with an SVS sub you only need standmount speakers anyway...the SVS will be more than capable of plugging the sub 80hz void:)

I assume that the measurements should be feet and not metres.

Neither the subwoofer nor amp are overkill as power in hand is as useful in an AV scenario as it is for motoring.

They would be the equivalent of driving a powerful car on the motorway at 70 mph

If you are keen on demoing stuff....... you should think about the servo 15 sub as well as the svs...... you can buy one from RS and you have a full 30 days in which you can demo it and return.....
