    Right guys, need your advice.

I'm looking for a 1 box amp to drive the following 2 potential setups :-

    1. ARCAM DV89 source, with AG DivAs Front speakers & micros rear plus SPL800 sub
    2. ARCAM DV89 source , with Velodyne Deco 5.1 speakers including sub

Would prefer the 1st setup, but can only afford if AGs are s/h.

Being in a semi I can't afford to blast the sound out.....too much ;)

Music & Home cinema sound are split 50/50 in terms of priority.

1st thought was to go with the Arcam AVR300 (£1300 rrp), but will this be OTT for option 2 above ? Then I was thinking do I need to spend that much & go for the Pioneer AX3 ?

Gut feel is option 1 will soak up the amps above & beyond ?, whilst option 2 might be wasted with the Arcam amp.

Lets have your opinions guys :lease:

    Cheers Dave

    Hi Dave
I should imagine the arcam avr300 would be ideal as you listen to music as much as you watch movies,The pioneer would be good at movies but not so hot on music.I know you think the speakers might let the side down a bit but they would sound better with good electronics driving them and if you do decide to change the gallos or velodynes for more upmarket speakers later on you will feel confident that the rest of your kit is up to it.
    Hope this helps Gonzo. :)

Well I'm an AX3 owner and I'm very happy with it. I would not say that it is especially musical- not bad but no class leader. I would agree that the AVR300 is a fine amp but possibly over matching the speakers. If you really want good stereo, the Arcam is the killer but perhaps look at the Yamaha 1400 as a half way house.
