Warner Bros are in early talks with Mel Gibson (of all people !) to direct the sequel. He's apparently familiarising himself with the material to determine wether it's a project he'd be interested in. Considering he's made some disparaging remarks about Hollywood churning out the comic book movies, I'm quite surprised to hear his name linked to this.
Daniel Espinosa (Safe) is also being considered along with a number of others that Variety lists as being Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies).
What do you guys think ? Good choice(s) ?

I can't see him directing this either. It's far more likely one of the more generic names listed will be bought aboard to tow the line.

Can't see the Gibson thing happening. I'm very happy with most of directorial efforts, which seem to come across as real passion projects. But Suicide Squad 2 and him seem like a square peg in a round hole. And that's before you get to the negativity he has towards the superhero genre.

looking at his previous films, and then this, I just can't see it happening. Unless he's looking to do something different and be more of a director for hire and maybe get one of his own projects made as part of the deal, it doesn't really sound like his kind of thing. Having said that, I'm currently in no rush at all to watch another Suicide Squad film but, if Mel Gibson directed it, I know I'd want to watch it. Even if it's just out of curiosity.

I guess he's enjoying being part of the Hollywood business again, I would be surprised if he took this particular project unless the studio wanted the sequel to be radically different to the first one. One of the things I found most people agreed on was the soundtrack and enjoyable ride the first half or so hour was and the film descended rapidly thereafter. . . .

I don't think I've ever seen a MG popcorn type movie and didn't think it was his style. Maybe barnaby jones is right and he's doing it for the money in order to fund his future projects?

I'm surprised they're moving ahead with this but I guess the (so-far) success Wonder Woman has buoyed them on?

Really why !? Suicide Squad was utter crap and was still a huge hit. Imagine what would happen if they actually made something that was watchable.

I'm sorry Harley, Wonder Woman would boot you into another dimension.

Wonder Woman would destroy them all even with a heavy bout of flu.

    Cheeky!

I'd throw away the baseball bat and book a hotel room, invite Wonder Woman and have some three way DC fun..

I'm going to have to break my rule watch trailers and read reviews to see if I go to another one of these. The first was such a steaming pile. Easily the worst recent comic film including Regularman 3.

I am surprised they are even attempting a sequel, the first one was really terrible.

I also think they are using Gibson's name. Hoping that people would be interested enough to see what he can produce to go and see the movie.

Argh, I think they would be better off splitting up the story and focusing on origin stories. It was a lot to take in in one sitting.

I'm surprised that everyone is surprised !
Money talks, $745m worldwide, 10th biggest film of year. WB would be foolish to not move forward with a sequel. Hopefully they have learned from the mistakes made first time round though.

I think a sequel could be good, provided they make a couple of changes. Like, everything.
