Trying to find a decent player and would like some suggestions, so here's what features I think I want (unless someone thinks I don't), it's going into a Sony HT10 projector.

Multi-region (who does the best conversions ?).
Progressive scan (on PAL and NTSC ????).
    DVD audio (maybe worth it).
I have a decent CD player so CD quality is not important.

And all for less than 200 quid, only joking upto about 1,000.

    Any ideas gratefully considered.

Probably 3 choices. Pioneer DV737, quite brilliant but no DVD audio. Pioneer DV939, the 737's big brother with DVD audio (although one less star in the HCC review. Last, but not least the Toshiba SD900, I'm not sure you can get it for a grand but from what I read if you can stretch the thing is awesome.
I've seen good and bad reports about all of the modifiers, Link and Techtronics seem the safest. I think only one has sorted a mod for the Tosh as yet. I suppose for ease (and if the cost is ok) then a local Sevenoaks would be a good bet assuming you have one. Then you wouldn't need to mail it back if it broke!

Arcam DV88, with pro-scan board, retails at £1350, but you may be able to get it for less.

It ha the benefit of being PAl pro-scan upgradeable by software for free (when PAL pro-scan issues are sorted), and it can be upgraded to DVD-A also.

Fully multi-region using handset hack, email me if you want it.

And it is a great CD player.

    Hope this helps!

A slightly different suggestion for you to consider. The Toshiba 9000 (old non scart model) might suit your needs. From memory you are using a Sony 10T and therefore you can also afford an Iscan Pro which will allow progressive scan on NTSC and PAL (and would also do video etc. A far more versatile solution than PS on NTSC in a DVD only.

The scaling on the Sony is excellent thought the PS bit could do with some good help. The Toshiba is a quality player that still yet to be beaten at this price (<£1k) though has been equalled. Price £350 multi Region. It's only down side is the lack of Scart which is irrelevant in your case. If I have got your kit wrong, completely ignore this! :D :D

Thanks everyone, I like your idea Nick, but noone seems to have SD9000's in stock anymore, however if I can find one I could get the DVD player now and add an Iscan or similar later.

Wondered how an SD500E compared with the SD9000 ?

There are still a few people advertising it, I will try and sort something out tonight. Can't confirm their availability however.

Re the 500. I have seen this only once but just isn't in the same class as 900. Is DVD Audio really that important?

I take it I was right about the 10t then!

Yep you were correct about the 10HT, so I'm not bothered at all about scart.

DVD-A is not that important (I'm a vinyl man anyway), I just thought it maybe worth getting if it just adds 150-200 quid onto the price.

If DVD A isn't important, I always like the Toshiba players in what I call the 2 series (2109, 200, 210). Simple basic players with very good picture / sound. There seems to be no quality difference bewtween these £200 players and £500 players other than facilities. The 9000 is better but......

Don't know about the manual as I only ordered the player yesterday!

Most manuals are multi language these days anuyway. If not, I can imagine it'll be too difficult to fathom out.

    Valerie,

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Where did you order it from and what sort of warranty do you get ?

    Cheers

    Hello Slingshot -

I've just ordered a Pal Progressive multi region Denon 2800, from Germany, for about £590 all in.
