You need something that can stream 4K over the network or play via USB/HDD
Must have 4k 60fps, DTS X, Atmos, posters and info available via IMDB
Gigabit connection, usb and sata-e connection and good clock on the front.
Well made, wifi if required and create a library for you by scanning your media.

You need what I have....... Egreat A5 UHD 4K Player.
Its even played 90Gb raw 4K over the network no lag, no issues.............

Apple TV is very good at streaming 4K movies and has all the block busters and many including Dolby Vision. For everything else, and especially keepers, you can’t beat a good universal disc player like the Oppo 203.

Apple are late to 4K scene with media by the likes to Netflix been available for some time. Apple tends to be quite restrictive in nature, they don't like you to mess around with them but it is nice to see them come into the market and offering 4k. There are some negatives tho, it does not support Atmos or DTS X which now common on new 4K releases and most of us have 4K AV receivers players like the Roku manages to offer passthrough and thats a £60 player. Some HDR processing is bad (software update expected) No Youtube 4K available, expensive and really beneficial to those if you have a large library of media in iTunes.
I was expecting a more open source box from Apple but sadly it's not.

That sums up the Apple 4K box, not even a USB connection.
Tim Cook * We can't be having that, we don't want you to be connecting your drives to it* LOL

I don't really own anything on iTunes, dont even use it and I have a iphone. Apple will always be inferior in this department.
You have the Shield? I own one also, coming to 2 years now, it's awesome, use it mostly for IPTV has I dont have Sky. Don't really use the Kodi side to it but connected a 1tb HDD for storage and it's rocking and rolling. Ticks all the boxes apart from one, would like Google Play apps to be more assailable, have to go through Aptitode to get them.

Just like me, you want a standlone player on the network for your media needs.
I'm interested in X10, been reading reviews and doing my research, will buy one when they drop in price, even tho I would like a Himedia Q10 Pro.
Looks awesome, sounds and looks a lot like the Egreat A8 where you drop the HDD/SSD in ...
My old Himedia 910B used to that but from the side, 4 clips..

I dont use mine for network purposes .....
Egreat use old Android 5.1 still ?
and they are still buggy still .
Nearly purchased the Himedia Q10 then saw the Zidoo X10 its lovely made and now with numerous updates its getting to be a great box .
    And hdmi in recording etc

Get one from Amazon and you can always return if not happy .
The Home Theater 2.0.5 Beta app does look awesome now .

I do but not often and only within whats available on the home network.
Currently on 5.1 but 7 is coming soon, had the Egreat 2 months but received 3 updates already so they sh*t hot on updates unlike Himedia. X10 is sexy I admit, the Q10 is just the same chassis has the old 900B ( Great player in its day, 1st I think to hold a internal HDD, still have it in the loft somewhere, the custom roms for that day where awesome) X10 in PVR is a nice addition too.. extermely rare. I will check it out and hear my partner moan * not another media player* LOL

Getting updates which is a good sign, with Himedia had to get the firmware from there website and install it via FAT32 Usb stick. It's a new player like your X10 so bound to happen at some point.

Its all about what you want the box to do no 1 which should be on your list .
    Then the next things .....

But no good buying a cheap media box that dont get regular updates
It end up in the draw .

Pay a little more and look for ones that gets software updates
But does what you want well .
And a little future proofing to it as well .
