I currently have a standard white screen but have read that where light can not be controlled that a grey or even black screen works better.

i dont want to spend mega bucks for it though

    any suggestions

Take a look at Platinum Home Cinema, their matt grey screens work well in normal living rooms. They are budget so expect hot spotting and visible screen texture but the black levels will be way better than a white screen.

No tab tension simply helps make the surface as flat as possible, the sparkles come from the texture of the material used.

Peoples reviews on these also put me off buying one, but i have also read that such as draper react screens have to be set up correctly to stop hot spotting, which then raises the question of have the reviewers actually got the pj's at the correct throw ratio to prevent hot spotting, sparkles can also show if viewing at more acute angles.
