I know this forum isnt probably the most appropiate place to post this request for assistance, but...

    Help please....

Having been out of the country for a few months, my PC (Telewest Broadband) seems to be the target of irritating pop up messenger adverts.

I have installed Outpost Firewall software (version 1 freebie) from Agnitum. However, Im not sure how well it is working. In fact since it has been installed I have had problems relating to intenet access for soem bizaree reason.

Which Firewall software are you all using? Which is easy to understand? Whilst I am not a computer phobe (I use PC's at work) outpost, does not seem too easy to use, though I ought to re-read the manual.

Any comments would be most appreciated.

    Adrian

The shield's up website is good for checking out your firewall.
ZoneAlarm is one of the recommended free firewalls that seems to have a good rep: a mate of mine suggested it was better than his Norton one.

    I like ZoneAlarm.

Free, easy to set up and works well.

    Cheers,

I've got Zone Alarm as well.

I'm behind a router, Zone Alarm reports no incoming access attempts in the last couple of weeks (since I've installed it). So I not sure if I need a firewall or not??

If you are behind a NAT-enabled router you don't really need a software firewall.

I dunno, I like to know when some new program is trying to access the internet, even when I'm behind a NAT router.

I use Sygate Firewall at the moment :)

I've used Zone Alarm in the past, but having heard some bad things about the latest free version I thought I'd try a different one when I wiped everything out last time :)

Both are available as freeware from www.downloads.com

    Another vote for Zonealarm here.

I have a licenced copy of Norton, but still use the free edition of Zonealarm.
