What settings should the subwoofer be at before I do the auto setup, and are there any settings on the Yamaha that I should do before I start the auto setup?

I have an idea what to do, but am not sure if it is right:

    On Subwoofer:

Volume: That's the easy bit. My volume goes up to 10, so I'll leave it half way at 5.

Phase: I already have it at 0 but it does go up to 180. I'll leave it at 0?

Now this is the bit I'm not too sure about:

Low pass X-over: I can have it 'in' or 'out' and goes from 120hz down to 40hz.
Do I leave it out so that the Yamaha controls everything?
And if I do, what setting do I set in the Yamaha?

So the only setting I should do on the Yamaha before the auto setup is set the X-over?

    Thanks

Leave the sub a little under half as you'll probably get an error if the sub's set too loud. Let the Yammy control the crossover and set it at 80Hz; then run the auto setup. Then just play around with the crossover point and phase. If it sounds right to you, it is right.

I'm more into music than movies, so I don't understand everything when it comes to setting the movie side of things.
    When you mention:

'....just play around with the crossover point and phase....'

Do you mean on the Yamaha?
And I can control the phase on the Yamaha aswell?

    Thanks

You can only set the amp at normal or reverse phase (0 or 180 degress). The best way to play with phase is to play a song u know well and keep knocking the phase on the sub up and down at regular intervals, and hear what sounds best from your listening position.
    The crossover can be set on the amp at 40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz, 100Hz, 110Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz and 200Hz
