Hi, just wondering if any of you have tried to connect the subwoofer output of your Hitachi plasmas or not?

I assume it would only be useful for regular tv viewing and not dvd (which would use the x.1 anyways).

Any difference with or without the extra base boost? I'm assuming it does not have to be a powered sub, right?

I've not used it myself, but you are correct that it would only be useful for audio that isn't routed through your AV processor/amp. i.e. TV recieved in the tuner box, or perhaps a VCR that you haven't connected to your amp. I assume that if you have a freeview/satellite/cable box that you have it connected directly to your amp.

I'm not 100% sure as I haven't got the specs handy but I'd give it 95% confidence that the sub would have to be of the powered variety. I doubt that the plasma would output a high power signal on this connection.

    Dunc.
