Hi, I'm thinking about the placement of the speakers for a surround system. I've read that the best place would be halfway between where I sit and the TV and off to one side, but I dont want the speaker sitting in the middle of the room ! Will the sound effect be ok if the subwoofer sat below the TV and off to one side? More importantly, will it have any affect if I turn it on it's side ? Thanks.
Most subs are designed to work in reasonable proximity to a wall, for the boundary reinforcement that results, with an obvious increase in bass level as a result. Turning the sub on it's side....an unusual thing to do,but should only create problems if by doing so you block a reflex port(if the sub is ported, that is)....what sub did you have in mind?
I would not decide where the sub is going yet. Experiment until you find the best location for your setup (try different locations). No two av set up are the same.
A good guide for sub placement(irrespective of which one you buy)can be found on REL's website www.rel.net and may help when you decide which sub to buy.
Hmmm I thought speakers and sub's were designed to work the way they were made - thats why they are made that way. It will look kind off odd on its side but as alexs2 says as long as the port is covered you should be ok... Don't quote me on that though....
