    Hi people
I am a noob looking for some advice.

I have slowly been building a stereo over the last couple of months, so far totalling:

    Mission 782, speakers
    Marantz PM 7200, amplifier
    Marantz CD 7300, CD player

I feel that the missions need some help the lower frequencies because most of the music I listen to is bass intensive. For this reason I have decided that I am going to add a subwoofer.
Not knowing anything about subwoofers I was initially interested in the Wharfedale Diamond sw150 purely because it won the What Hi-Fi budget sub of the year.

However reading through several forums is seems clear that people have a very strong following for REL and MJ Acoustics kit, however because I am a poor student :) only these companies entry models are available at the very limit of my budget, the:

    REL quake
    MJ Acoustics Pro 50

Anyway what I am trying to ask for is some advice as to where to spend my money, it does not necessarily have to be any of the subwoofers that I have mentioned.

Ow yeah here is some more information that might be useful

The sub will be used in a predominantly stereo set up, only very occasionally used for AV.
The room that it will be used in is average living room size
The size of the sub enclosure is not an issue
My budget is 250 – 300...ish, as I am currently a student I could not justify spending more than this.

Any advice in this area will be greatly appreciated

    PS
I apologies for the long and boring post

A subwoofer would definatly be a worthwhile upgrade and the two you have suggested are good little subs but another sub to consider may also be the xls 200 which can be found here in a down firing version and a forward firing version (difference being a downward firing sub is best place in a corner and a forward firing one almost everywhere else) http://www.bkelec.com/new/Special_Offers/sp10.htm
    very highly recommended sub.

similarly you may want to look at an svs pb10, these are bigger and go lower but need to be imported from the US although many have done so and it seems to be an fairly simple procedure, just make sure you ask for a 240v. see here http://www.svsubwoofers.com/subs_pb10_isd.htm Send them an email with your address and interest and they should quote you a price.

If you fancy saving yourself a bit of cash to spend elsewhere or possible finding something a bit better second hand you can have a look in the classified forum here http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=62.

I happen to be selling my rel quake in the classifieds so feel free to put in an offer or ask any questions if your interested. can be found here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170844

    Hope that helps.
