A phono cable will be fine if you have one available :)

I spent about £25 on an Ixos sub cable but there probably is'nt much difference between that and a cheaper standard rca cable.
I just feel better that I've spent money on expensive av kit.

I have the QED SR-SW and it is a superb lead with a lot more definition than the standard QED PSW.

I had a cheapo Tech+link 5 meter lead connecting my subwoofer, when I bought a second sub, I got two 3 meter Audioquest G-Snake subwoofer cable, for peace of mind too, but never compared them, as I thought it wouldn´t matter for the subs...

The other day we tested a few cables in a friends house, he has a REL Quake, big surprise, Profigold and another cheapo almost had no bass in comparison with QED Qunex SR-SW...

Another DIY was close to the QED, still the QED sounded much better, unfortunatelly I didn´t bring my Audioquest along, as we where supposed to test powers, and I didn´t think sub cables made any significant difference, now I know better, and I want to compare mine with the QED... :suicide:

Not a great source of info IMHO. I am writing a 'guide' re all cables which I hope will be finished for the weekend, it is long piece though and will say what you need for a sub cable but as a sneak preview contact Mark G and ask about Canare 77 cable ;)

If this cable thing doesn't make any difference then how do I get away with selling cables by demo??
If I play one cable then another and the customer wants to buy the more expensive one because they think it sounds better surely it must be, we often play them without telling them which price they're listening to and it still seems they choose the better cable.
    Maybe it's all a coincidence.

Who said it didn't make a difference?

Re selling, I am probably wise not to comment on shops selling cables :) How are the margins on cables?

There are certain technical things that need to be done wrt cables and in particular cables for sub woofers. These need to be done well in order to prevent ‘any problem’ issues contaminating the signal. If it does that correctly then there should be little difference in sound and the choice is down to colour of cable, gold’ness of plugs, flexibility, gullability of punter…..however MOST commercial cables do NOT address all the technical issues with sufficient rigur……hence many differences. The sad bit about it all is this isn’t expensive to do correctly but people spend too much time on the looks (perceived and not real quality of say gold plugs) and too little time on the basic quality of the ‘ingredients’.

I've ordered the QED P-SW 3.0m to use with my Tanny Mx10. Didn't go for the silver SR-SW as that would probably be overkill for a budget sub. However, I do use the QED silver coax digital cable (SR75) between my DVD player and amp.
