Hi Guys,

I have purchased a set of used Mission Cube 5.1 speakers from ebay for a decent imo price.

I am looking to power them with either a Denon 4300 or Marantz SR7011 receivers.

I am planning to add another sub into the mix and therefore would like a recommendation on subwoofer cable.

One sub will be placed by the tv wall so it doesn't need to be long. The second I am thinking of placing behind the sofa perhaps so need a relatively long cable that will be passed under the floor boards and back up behind the sofa.

Once the floor is laminated it may be difficult to swap that longer cable so want to get something which is decent right now.

Do you guys recommend any cable or will the amazon basics cable be okay? I've seen a Fisual Havana for around £60 for 15m but think that's slightly above budget.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i have a few Amazonbasics cables and given their price are how well made they are you can't go far wrong. You do realise that the subwoofer cable has not been released yet assuming you were looking at the same one. AmazonBasics Subwoofer Cable - 2.44 meters: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Fisual make reasonably priced cables and at about the same price as the Amazon cable is this one.
Fisual 5m Install Series Subwoofer Cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

I own a couple of these and a Amazonbasics Y cable which uses the same cable and phono plugs as their basic sub cable. On build quality and appearance the Amazon cable has the edge. I doubt if there is any audio difference.

Just watched a YouTube video that slated the Amazon cable. Given it's price for the 15m version I may just go for it on your recommendation.

Is this the video review?

Not exactly unbiased with one manufacturer comparing their product with a competitors and completely slagging it off.

Amazon.com sell Mediabridge subwoofer cables and along with the Amazonbasics subwoofer cable are in their best sellers both getting an averge rating of 4.8 stars. Amazon Best Sellers: Best Subwoofer Cables

Thanks for the link. Are these suitable for going behind walls? I ask because I purchased a role of Van Damme Blue and ended up not using it as it's not cl2 or cl3 rated.

No idea....I'd take a pragmatic approach. If it is a full house rewire with everything integrated for many miles then yes that is applicable. But if it is a shallow chase for a short distance in the plaster only is it still necessary?

Best ask your electrician and building inspector in that case....

Do you actually need 15m (50ft)? That seems a bit long.

There is really no difference between a Subwoofer cable and a Standard RCA Cable. That is a distinction without a difference. Though typically if you buy standard RCA cables you get a pair, and if you buy a Subwoofer cable you get one.

Here is the Fisual Rio Custom Cable made to order - [Top Rated] -

Fisual Rio Custom Made Subwoofer Cable - By Brand - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

15m runs £35.50

If you want to go to the Fisual Havana Custom Cable -

Fisual Havana Custom Made Subwoofer Cable - By Brand - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

Then the 15m price is £61.

Fisual S-Flex = £26.98 @ 15m -

Fisual Havana Custom Made Subwoofer Cable - By Brand - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

I would speculate that the Top Rated Fisual RIO would be the best compromise of quality and value. It seems to be the best Subwoofer Cable under £50.

I think 15m may be abit long but want to have one cable to end behind the sofa incase I purchase a 2nd sub at any point. The room is 12 foot wide but the cable would be coming from one corner to behind the sofa which is kind of against the back wall.

Would you terminate at a wall plate or keep the connection direct at both the receiver end and the sub end? I thought having the sub end longer would allow me to position the sub where ever it sounded best?

The room is shaped oddly. But think I may go with a setup something like in the pic attached.

Though in all honesty, with the very small Mission Cube 5.1, you don't need to get carried away on the cable.

Likely this is adequate -

I will end up upgrading the Missions to something else at some point. I bought them really as I wanted to use something to set everything up and really didn't want to use my house renovation budget on the speakers.

I was originally looking at the amazon basics cable but wasn't sure as I would be routing it under the floor to the back of the room and wanted something that may be better.

I'm not sure setting the Sub back in that inset at the rear of the room is a good idea. I'll let others with more Sub experience address that issue.

As to the cable, to some extent my thought exactly. If you are going to do it, do it right, though don't get excessive. If you improve the system or the speakers, it is cheaper to have a good cable than to have to buy a second one.

Van Damme or Sommer cable is decent stuff for a reasonable price.
