    Hi,

I am slowly updating my collection of speakers. I can't spend a lot so to keep the price down I try and buy second hand.

So far I have MK LCR850s for my front sound stage. The rears and the subwoofer are still from the MA Vector set I had previously and it is these I am looking to improve.

I believe the weakest link is the subwoofer. I am looking to replace it with a BK unit but was wondering whether a BK XLS200 would be ok, or whether a XLS400 would be better. My room size is approx 11.5ft by 13.5ft. I am in a terraced house so try to keep the sound down!

When I come to replacing the surrounds can anyone recommend a good match for the LCR850s that I have a chance of getting second hand?

    Thanks,

    Matt

The closest match to some M&K LCR850's would be another pair of 850's or 851's. Alternatively, LCR650/LCR651's would be an excellent match although they're quite rare nowadays. Most M&K's will match each other well so you could consider some K7 or K17's. There's a full set for sale in the classifieds for just over £250. I'd be tempted to snap the lot up for that price.

    For Sale - M&K speakers MP150 mk2 LCR plus 3x K7, 2x K17

Going by the pics it looks like it's actually three K17's and a pair of K7's.

Thanks for the replies. Not heard an SVS sub before so that looks worth chasing up.

I was wondering about the K series. I like the sound of the 850s a lot so would be good to match them. Wondering if it worth holding out for some MK dipoles like the K4 or Sur 55t for the surrounds though?

SS150THX Tripoles will also match well. As I said, the majority of the M&K range match each other quite well. It's just a case of actually getting your hands on some as and when they pop up for sale.

You could always put a Wanted advert in the Classifieds. :smashin:

I would go with the xls400. You can turn a big subwoofer down, but you cant ask more of a weaker one. The XLS 400 is more in line with what MK would put with your speakers.

Do you know how much of a difference there will be between the K4 and sur-55T in my setup?

Unfortunately not as I've not directly compared those two models.

Buy the cheaper surrounds - You won't notice an appreciable difference by the time the AVR's auto EQ has done its thing.

Just in case some pop up, also keep an eye out for the M&K (the original company) Xenon surrounds. These were smaller, better finished and better sounding speakers than the K Series and also a lot smaller.

I can't argue with the XLS-400 nomination. Best sube there is for the price and I'd take it over the nearest SVS every time.

Just as an update to this. I managed to get a pair of the Xenon (surt-26) surrounds and they sound great with the 850s so thanks for the advice.

Just the subwoofer to sort now!
