I have just spent money on the following ,before i ordered a bed and sofa:-

    Mission 72 package
    Marantz st4200 avr
    Nad 522 cd player
    Toshiba 32zd tv
    Plus cables/stands etc etc

I have no moneyleft! But my gf said i can maybe spend upto £300 on a subwoofer, no more. It means i can delay re-building the kitchen for a while, any recommendations please? Pls don ask me to save upto £500 for a Rel.

    Regards

PS Bed and sofa are in now.

I'd heartedly recommend an IPL SW2 self build sub. It's so easy to put together with only 4 solder joints, from amp to sub cone. Have some screws , wood glue, draft excluder available a days labour, extra if you use his iron on veneer, all for £285 more if veneer is ordered, easy controllable, has high level low pass small so girlfriend friendly. Unless you can buy a 2nd Rel for a lot less go with this you will not be dissapointe www.iplacoustics.co.uk

Don't take any notice Harj, you girlfriend sound OK to me if she allowed you to buy AV equipment before a bed and sofa etc.

What Hifi have given very good reviews to MJ Acoustics sub at £300. Not only that but it looks rather nice too.

I haven't heard one but have had a look at their web site on http://www.mjacoustics.com

    HAR J,
buy a rel. I am knot just saying it to sell the one i have for sale in this forum classifieds but i went through the same as you when i was after a sub (limeted budget) and i demod a lot of
subs up to £300 incl mjs sub and i can honestly say my q100e knocks lumps out of the competition with movies and it is in a diferent league when it comes to music. Ask what other people think.

Look for a second hand REL.

I just got a great deal on a second Rel Storm for my system, and it was £80 cheaper than your budget.

Go and have a look at the classifieds.

Might be worth looking at the new B&W 600 S3 subs. They do a base (very poor joke unintended) model called (I think) the ASW600 for £350, replacing the ASW500 when it appears. Then there is the ASW650 (guess the name again) with is £500 and replaces the ASW1000.

Good deal Perry, but i really do need to listen to the alternatives so in my heart i know i've made the right choice, so off i go to audition B&W, Mission and MJ and of course Rel, if Rel is as good as everyone seems to say then i'll be going second hand. Thanks very much for the advice chaps, much appreciated.
