Sub dampen

Standard Member
I recently hooked up my stereo to my cable box (it won't connect to my TV), but the built in subwoofer has a tendency to buzz and boom, e.g. when male newsreaders read the news there is an annoying buzz on low tones. There is no individual sub adjuster, only a bass knob, and when I turn that down it just sounds ****. I think part of the problem is the cabinet it's in, so I was wondering if there is anything I could do? Maybe dampen the sub?
