I have a FF BKXLS200 which I'm extremely pleased with. I mostly use it late at night hence haven't noticed the way the cone "does it's stuff".

Recently I had a rare opportunity to play a few pieces at hight volume during the day. I was surprised to see on a couple of occasions the cone seemed to oscillate in and out relatively slowly (say in & out once per second), to what seemed to be maximum extension. Moreover the sub wasn't producing much bass to speak of at that moment.

What's going on here? Is this the subs attempt to plummet depths even it can't reproduce?

    ...PJ :)

In and out once per second equates to a frequency of 1Hz which is well below what the XLS200 can reproduce - the amp is AC coupled and has a natural rolloff at about 7Hz I think.

I would guess that what you're seeing is the sum of several different frequencies. :)
