    Projector connections.

About to buy a projector but can someone tell me ( and this might be a stupid question ). Most projectors don't have scart sockets. How does someone connect sky plus box / dvd ( sony davs300) and say an xbox to a projector at the same time. Or am I missing something?

no not a stupid question..... if anything it's a question we should be asking the manufacturers.... for years we get told that RGB Scart is the way to go and as soon as I start getting with the program then they change the rules.....

Actually I believe some of the Panasonic machines have scart input....

I currently use component for the Xbox and S-video for DVD. I don't have sky + so can't advise on that. The connections I have are more than adequate but I plan to go the HCPC route soon (whatever one of those is!) and hope to connect via VGA.... that is supposedly the current way to go.... then there's HDMI. .... hope I've added some confusion to the mix!!!

    Still confused.

You are using component for DVD and XBOX but not at the same time? Sky will need HDMI next year, most seem to be recommending DVD HDMI to HDMI. No doubt the next Playstaion and XBOX will be better through HDMI. Will projectors have 3/4 scokets similar to current TVs or is there a "box" I can feed all into before going to the projector?

PS thanks Dwayne for the answer

I dare say there is some box, which will probably cost you much more than
you're willing to pay, & convert RGB to component, which will do the job nicely  .

I am about to buy a pj & will use my Sony RDR HX900 DVD recorder to convert
    the scart to cmponent.

Would appear that there is a product called a "Hdmi switcher" which comes with a remote control. So when you watch Sky HD and want to switch to your DVD you push a button and it changes the projector input. The switcher is pricey enough but I'd imagine by the time we get Sky HD that some sweat shop somewhere will be churning them out for buttons.

Keene Electronics for the Scart to 15-pin RGB or component.
The Sky+ box (Version 1 anyway) has a S-video ouput.

Do you have an amp? An amp that's capable of video switching would makes things far easier to connect everything up to the PJ.

I've got a benq PE1520 and have connected it up like this:

PC - DVI (same sort of thing as HDMI)
    Sky+ - S video
X box - component using the MS hi def cable
PS2 - composite (not the best way, should use component really!)
DVD - I have to unplug the s video lead from the sky box! and connect it!

for the new X box 360 EVERY game will be in hi definition, so worth getting one with a DVi / hdmi input.

I'm sure there is a switcher for hdmi about.

theres one for composite on ebay for £15 but it looks quite cheap and I worry it might lower the quality of the picture.

Why? If it's because your DVD player doesn't have S Video out, why not get a Scart to S Video cable? Or am I missing something here. I can't see why you have to unplug the Sky+ box to plug in the DVD.

Because my projector only has one s video input and I only have one 10 metre s video lead, therefor it is in my sky+ for 95% of the time and when I want to watch a DVD i have to unplug it and put it in the DVD player. I could just buy an s video switcher box although I think I'm going to just get a DVD with DVI output instead.

Heres a DVI switcher box BTW:

In these circumstances, I suspect that many folk use their AV amplifier to do the switching, which is why, for those many, passing multiple video, SVideo or component signals down one cable to a projector isn't an issue.

Denon have a new av receiver with 3 hdmi inputs and 1 dvi input. Only problem is that it will cost the same price as a family car. Think they'll come down in price rapidly. Everything seems to be going HDMI.

    PS
I see the new Playstation 3 will have 2 hdmi outputs too 720p and 1080p and blu ray dvd. Was thinking about upgrading the DVD player too but I might hang on a bit longer to see what the future holds.

I will be buing a Denon 1905 or 2105. Can I connect evertyhing to the Denon (DVd with component, Sat with scart, video with s-video etc) and then sent just one component cable to the projector?

Can these receivers transform s-video to component for example?
