Hi,

I'm pretty sure this is a stupid question. But I have a component DVD player connected to my LCD HD-TV. Should I expect to be able to watch DVD's in progressive scan??

Cheers

I would expect so - if the component leads(3 x leads) are connected and prog scan button is pressed on the DVD player

Though not all DVD players with component outputs support progressive output - some are still interlaced only via component.

However if your DVD player supports component progressive output, and your display supports it as an input format, then you should be able to link them progressively.

If you have a flat panel display (or an LCD or DLP projector, though possibly not an ALiS plasma) then this will, by definition, be operating in progressive mode, so in this case you are only moving the interlace->progressive conversion from the display to the DVD player. (Depending on the performance of the two de-interlacers you may see quality benefits either way)
