We picked up a Chromecast so my partner could watch streamed TV in her hotel room (Netflix for now) - she travels most weeks.

Unfortunately I didn't do my research and we have since discovered the Chromecast doesn't work how we need it to.

Firstly to connect to the hotel WiFi, you have to enter the room number and last name into a web page - something the Chromecast can't display and has no input for :(

Second you need the tablet controlling the cast (in this case a Nexus 7) to be able to talk over the LAN with the Chromecast, again this seems to be prevented by the way the hotel WiFi is set up which is designed to stop devices interacting for security reasons.

This article goes into more detail but the solutions are not really workable for the user

So my question is can a Roku or Amazon Fire TV stick work in this environment or would we be wasting money trying?

    Any thoughts appreciated
