StreamedMP won't work with Vista 64 and TV series episode problems, etc

Hi,

First off, I tried installing StreamedMP skin for mediaportal earlier on my Vista 64 system, and the instal file would not run.

I then installed Monochrome. It's okay, but in my opinion a little too grainy. I also don't like the fact that MediaPortal takes so long to load.

Anyway, some other issues. Despite installing KMPlayer and CoreAVC etc, when I click on an Episode to run, nothing happens.

Also, when I try to import my TV series, only season 5 of lost will install. I have two other folders with season 3 and 4 in and they are not recognised.

Also, what is the best way to rip episodes from DVD onto the harddrive?

Thanks for your help and sorry for being breif -it's been a long evening!

Here is a reply I gave to someone earlier, just subsitute server for your PC

I have ripped DVD's to a Windows Home server as VOB's and Blu-ray as ISO's. The whole lot is accessed by a HTPC with Vista Home premium installed and My Movies 2 My Movies - Home
To move the DVD's onto the server I have installed ANYDVDHD and with the help of Nero 8 "Copy Main Movie only" I copy to folders on the server from the HTPC.
The beauty with My Movies is you type in the DVD bar code or look up and it will download the front and back covers, all the actors DVD details etc and all you do is point it to where the movie has been stored. i.e. if you created a folder on the server for example Videos/Films/James Bond - Goldfinger you just point it to the folder and in that folder you have ripped your movie, It does th rest.

Hi JimBob,

Im running Vista 64 Ultimate and the StreamedMP installer worked fine for me. Ive not changed a thing about Vista OS except to turn off the stupid UAC. So other than that no ideas im afraid.

Ive got the TV-Series plugin to read every one of my files but i do know depending on the naming structure it might not do the lookup properly. The TV-Series plugin does have settings within itself for what to check the filename contains, and what to replace it with. For example look for 720p and replace with nothing. This is done so most stuff is stripped out, leaving the plugin something easier to search.

I have my episodes all like this...

Lost - 101 - Pilot

Im not 100% sure what is and isnt used but based on that naming structure its working like a charm.

Good luck!

Andy98765, Cheers, but I was looking to rip individual episodes from DVD to use with the MediaPortal TVSeries plugin. For example, rip all of the Lost Series 1 episodes from DVD onto the harddisk as AVIs or something. Any idea how I can do this?

Dlthorpe, Maybe I have a corrupted file or something? Is there any chance you could email me the file you used for the plugin (mail: lewis(dot)bassett(_at_)gmail(dot)com)? I'm trying to find the files also, so I can maybe manually copy the files accross.

I'll try your suggestion when I have a decent skin setup.

Also, whenever I try to open any of the files once I have setup KMPlayer as the external decoder, the file plays, but it crashes MediaPortal when I try to exit.

It's a shame, MediaPortal seems to work very well for other people and looks very good when setup properly, but so far my experiences with it have been almost completey negative. I really hope I can get it to work!

Thanks for your help chaps!

Are you using a proper copy of SteamedMP I have installed it 4 times now on a Vista HomeP 64bit and never had a problem. Download it here streamedmp - Google Code

You might have to uninstall mytvseries an movingpictures as StreammedMP installs these for you

My Tv Series is really quite smart and will take quite a few formats of episode tagging like s02e12 or 2x12 or 212. Best thing to do is to go in and use the 'Parsing Test' to see if the program has been able to identify the program before go through the adding process, read here Extensions-Plugins/MP-TVSeries/Configuration - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

For any that fail i would rename the actual files aso that if you ever had to do a reinstall you would not have to go through the process again

Thanks for replying.

I think I might of installed MyTVSeries first before I installed the skin - I can't remember.

When I get home tonight, I'm going to uninstall MediaPortal and try again from scratch, this time using the install file you have pointed to.

By the way, the error I was getting when I tried to run the StreamedMP file was "installer would not open" or something to that effect.

I had my lost episodes in different folders, depending on which series they were in. Tonight, I'll try just putting all the files in one folder and naming them as "Lost - 1x01 - Pilot" etc as you and others have suggested.

Thanks.

Make sure once you uninstall you delete the files form c:\program files (x86 or the x64 folder) and from c:\programdata

Thanks! I went to reinstall MediaPortal last night and noticed that the documentation specifically states that you have to have all the Windows updates installed, which I didn't. I am currently installing those at the moment. This could be why StreamedMP wouldn't instal.

I tried setting up my HTPC according to Phils Guide: ProjectHTPC - HTPC Software Advice

It seems that everyone else is recommending different codecs (ffdshow, etc).

yeah there are many different options for codecs, i think the most common is Haali + ffdshow (+ maybe CoreAVC and AC3filter). I find ffdshow very clean stable and is a real does it all program

Sorry chap ive just got back on here and noticed this. Do you still require the file? Im quite happy to send it over plus anything else you might need. Cant to it right now though as im not on my media pc and about to go out.

I got all my files from the SteamedMP installer itself though. That installer puts in the TV-Series plugin automatically.

Thanks for replying everyone!

StreamedMP was not installing, the error I got was "Error reading setup initialization file" or something similar. After doing a bit of googling it turns out this is quite common and is caused by the file not downloading properly. Sure enough, when I compared the size of the file to what the website says it should be, there was a discrepency. I eventually downloaded it onto another machine and now it runs quite well.

I'm just going through the long process of configuring everything and finding out how it all works.

Thanks for your help everyone!
