There's an article over at uk.ign.com discussing Orb, a digital streaming application (that's free!). Install Orb on your PC, let it scan your directories for content and you can access it via mycast.orb.com via the Opera browser on your Wii.

I'm in the process of setting this up now, but it sounds like a winner if it works properly.

    Here's the article:

I already use Orb to access my media remotely.

    However, I don't have a Wii yet.

Well, so far the experience is frustrating. The set up is easy enough and I can browse my PC hard drive via the Wii interface, but I've not been able to stream anything yet.

Looking through the Orb forums, it seems this isn't an uncommon problem.

It seems a bit extreme streaming your media over the internet to get it from your PC to your Wii.
What's needed is a local streaming service that keeps it within your own network.
I'm sure it wouldn't be very hard to do and would be a lot better than streaming it over the net.
A simple solution would be to run your own web server on your PC and navigate to it with the wii browser, then just list your music/video on a few web pages or some thing.

For PSP its very easy to stream music across the local network with a copy of Apache on your PC and a bit of PHP to give a RSS feed for music content on the PC. I don't know whether Opera on the Wii is set up to read mp3 type RSS (or RSS at all). If it is then it should be easy to extend it to moving images (and still images come to that) shouldn't it?

I've been using Orb and it's not bad. Streams MP3 fine, although videos weren't great quality.

I tried this http://wmc.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/WiiCR as it seems better at handling playlists for MP3's and works locally.
It can even transcode DIVX video files to your Wii. Albeit in a smallish window in your Opera browser.
