If you are familiar with the method of 6.1 decoding used on the 1080 you will know what I mean with this query. There are 3 options, first is 6.1 decoding 'off' so there will be no surround back decoding, second is 'matrix' which will convert a 5.1 into a sort of pseudo 6.1 surround and so activate the surround back (SB DEC) indicator. Third is 'auto' which uses the 6.1 'flag' encoded on a dvd that has either Dolby Digital EX or DTS ES. I have tried both Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones which are supposed to be in DD EX and the 1080 should be set to 'auto' to detect the 'flag' thus activating the appropriate decoder. However, SD DEC remained unactivated on both so I had to manually switch to 'matrix'. I have yet to try RI Gladiator, R1 Blade 2, R1 Terminator 2 which all have DTS ES discrete 6.1 but surely the above two should have the 'flag' encoded. Does anyone have any experience with this?
