    Hi All,

I've been collecting DVD's now for over 3 years, and all my disks are in good condition.

But i do have a copy of "The Terminator" when it first came out on DVD.

So on Sunday i fancied having a blast of "The Terminator", so much for that........skip..skip...jump..jump...........!!

After taking the disk out to have a look, it's got patches of moisture INSIDE the DISK ??

What has caused this, and is there anything i can do....apart from buying a new copy ??

    Cheers

Disc rot. Nowt you can do, except contact the retailer who you purchased to from and ask for a replacement (or sending a letter to MGM)

Another alternative is asking a mate to make a copy of his original Terminator SE-make an exact copy. Ok it's piracy, but you've got the an original- it went bad because of manufacturing faults, therefore you've every right for a working version , by whatever means.

******, I had a quick look at my disc and guess what? Knackered:mad:

what other discs are prone to rot, as I may as well get it over and done with in one go.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the info. We pay good money for these items, and all we get is crap !!

Do they still do this, or was it a early problem with the manufacturing of the DVD disks ??

Thankfully i don't think i've got any duff disks, but i'll go through my collection and check it out !!!

    Cheers

    Hi Nathan,

I have a copy of the first "Terminator" UK SE DVD, it was a gold disk, i suppose these were the ones that were faulty ??

I also have a Canadian R1 copy of "T2-Ultimate Edition" in a metal box !!

Acording to the list posted by Captineyecatch, "Terminator" is the only one listed here i have in my collection.

    Cheers

I've had two discs with disc rot- R1 canadian ver of Chicken Run, and R1 canadian ver of License to Kill. Worked fine for a year, then pixellates at the layer change, then eventual lockup.

I'm in the process of backing up my DVD's- looking around for a DVD writer, then software to copy Dual Layer 9 GB's with exact picture & sound quality of the original.

I can do 4.7 GB's, no problems- but these don't suffer from DVD rot.

I have the Metal box of T2 (R1, canadian) I've heard single disc version (dual layer, dual sided) has problems than the 2 x dual layered version.

The discs that are affected include MGM or pathe discs that are manufactured by Technicolor. The only one I had affected was The Terminator. If you clean the disc, I washed it with a tiny bit of soap and a lint free cloth. It worked and now the disc plays fine and that was about six months ago

Also, anyone with the R1 of Blade II, check your discs. The case of my copy has made a disc crack at the centre. Luckily, it was the extras disc and not the film. It will be the disc on the tray.

I know a couple of other people with the same problem.

    Hi All,

I had an e-mail from MGM last night, and they said they know about the fault !!

So all i need to do is send it back to a freepost address, and they will return me a brand new copy of "The Terminator"

    Look forward to it !!

    Cheers

I had the same problem with my Terminator and Silence of the Lambs UKR2. let me guess your terminator strted jumping at the shootout scene in the policestation and get's stuck after arnie leaves and Sgt. Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor drive away in the car. If that's the case do not dispair!!!
    here's the lesson for today:lesson:
take your discs (u should see that moisture on the xtrasdisc as well) and wash'em...yes wash'em in lukewarm water with a bit of washingupliquid. I didit and the disc worked again
    :lesson: lesson over

    Hi Lux,

Thanks for the tips mate..........I'll try that but the rot covers 2/3rds of the disk, and it's pretty much gone :( and plays the first 4 chapters, and then it's pretty much unplayable from the middle of the 4th chapter !!

So i'll give it a go later, but i think i'll end up sending it back and get a new copy !!

    Cheers
