Strange noise from PX60...

Well, i've finally done it!

Purchased a Panny 37PX60, and for the most part, delighted.

It's connected up with the usual array of boxes, DVD recorder and Skybox (basic, not sky+).

One small problem. Everything works perfectly, but when i turn off sky, a noise like a truck driver sounding his hooter comes from the speakers for about half a second. It's REALLY loud, i nearly had an accident!!

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is? I have repeated the exercise with the TV speakers muted and it doesn't happen, so it appears to be some kind of "momentary" feed-back through the TV speakers when the skybox shuts off, but why, and how do i stop it:confused:

Please help if you can:lease:

This isn't normal behaviour for a PX60.

Somehow you've got your wiring to create a feedback loop of some sorts.

Start by removing everything apart from the normal aerial connection (coax). Try the PX60 and make sure it doesnt make this loud noise before you go any further.

Now connect each scart lead one at a time and re-check what happens when you turn the Sky box off.

The problem may not be anything to do with the connections at the plasma end, it could well be between your Sky box and another item.

On the PX60, you can set one of the scart outputs to a number of different options. I dont have the user manual in front of me right now, but the options are something like "Monitor" "Tuner" and maybe one other.

If the scart connections arent the cause - this "Monitor Output" could well be.

Check your user manual - you'll find this setting somewhere in the customer setup menu.

Good Luck !

My thoughts exactly!

I have "daisy chained" SKY, DVD Recorder, VCR and then to TV.

As i remember, when sky was connected on its own, i didn't get this effect. One of the scarts from the SKY box follows this pattern (sky, dvd, vcr) then into AV3 on the set. The other scart from the SKY box goes directly into AV1. I've got a feeling that the scart cable going to AV1 is not fully wired, so that could well be it.

Many thanks for your reply. If it works i'll post the result on here for others to read.:smashin:

Ok, here's the solution:

From the SKY box, going from the "TV OUT" scart socket, the sequence is SKY>>VCR (decoder in)>>VCR (TV out)>>DVD REC (decoder in)>> DVD REC (TV out)>> AV3 on the PX60.

The analogue aerial is configured similarly.

This is it. Everything has been checked over and all works fine. Both of my recording devices are smartlink (Q-link) compatible. however you only seem to get this function on the device connected directly to the TV, in my case the DVD recorder (i've lost that particular function on the VCR, something to do with it being connected indirectly via the chain). This is not a problem for me. Freeview is recorded via L1 and SKY via L3.

Note that when selecting SCART connection types in the PX60 menu, do not choose decoder for L3, this appears to be for foreign satallite systems (PAY-TV/canal) and subsequently L3 does not appear in the options when trying to manually select a SCART input. Choose RGB in and all works fine.

Thanks for all your comments and help in assisting me to make my choices. I will post a piccy of my complete setup in due course. :smashin: :smashin:

Additionally, i have left the scart output as "monitor"!
